In 2010 the breeding season started promising. Little by little the species reserved their breeding areas. Until midth of June the breeding season was nippy, but high water, that might become dangerous for the brood, was missing.

| The first high water level occurred on 12th June and harried the rookery of the Black-headed Gulls. The other species that breeded a bit higher endured the high water. On 19th June the water reached these species, too. Water levels of about +0,75 m submerged the lower salt marsh and the breeding areas of gulls and terns. First, I expected a breeding season without success but I soon came to realize that some of the Black-headed Gulls endured the high water levels and fledged. Two Great Black-backed Gulls and a Common Gull endured the high tides as well. Furthermore, four Sandwich Terns fledged. Possibly, the crisis of the Sandwich Terns is survived. For the Common Terns the breeding season went better than I thought it would. Altough they had a total loss they did not leave the Wadden Sea but laid eggs once again - with success. Ten Common Terns fledged this year. 2010 was the best Tern-year for years, hence. Herring and Lesser Black-backed Gull had low breeding success. Some nests fell prey to the high waters but for the most part the eggs and squabs were predated. The positive trend of the Spoonbills continued. The number of breeding pairs rised by 16 pairs up to 41 pairs. The breeding success was not as high as in the previous year, but 70 squabs fledged. A pair of Peregrinels breeded in the salt marsh again. Both nestlings fledged. A Water Rail could not be detected in 2010 but a pair of Northern pintails and of Mediterranean Gulls started brooding attempts - without success. The following table overviews the breeding birds of Trischen Island 2010. |
